As I set here writing I hear my daughter in the background practicing on the piano. Softly and melodically "Music of the night" drifts from her fingers. And, I wonder if we as a society have lost our way and have "turned and faced away from the garish light of day and listen to the music of the night."
I recently read where Hammas and other terrorist organizations are calling the latest suicide bombing in Israel a peace gesture. They say the killer is not a terrorist but a missionary of peace.
At first I was offended but then on further thought I can see their point.
Basically, if you kill enough of the enemy then the rest will seek (beg for) peace.
I do believe that the rule of "unintended consequences" has finally caught up with Islamo-fascist. It's a shame our government can't see that they have pointed the way to peace.
We need to only look back as far as the "Civil" war. Better known in the south as the "War for State rights" to illistrate how to win the peace.
Sherman's march through Georgia; his slash and burn campaign. Or the bombardment of Charleston. Lincoln fought to win. He couldn't defeat the Army of the South so he went after the spirit of the soldiers by killing their families and destroying their homes.
World War I was fought differently. The enemy was not destroyed by attacking his family and home so he came back again and caused World War II.
World War II, the war to end all war, saw saturation bombing of both military and civilian targets. Basically, Germany was turned into rubble until the people lost the will to fight and began to plot against their leaders.
Germany had learned the way of peace.
In Japan we had a different population attitude much like the attitude of the people of Islam. All power and all will come down from the leaders and the people will only surrender when their leaders are destroyed.
Nuclear bombs were dropped on Japan, not to demoralize the population but to foment dissention in the leadership. History tells us this worked.
Japan had learned the way of peace.
Unfortunately this lesson has been lost since the Korean War. In stead of destroying North Korea our government began to worry about how the rest of the world would perceive us. The UN came into being around this time.
We settled for "peace talks" that have been going on for over 50 years. In the mean time N. Korea has gone from a 3rd world starving nation to, thanks to our help, a third world starving nation with nuclear weapons. (No I don't have to name who was in charge of our government at the time. You can look it up for your selves.)
N. Korea has not learned the way of peace.
Vietnam. The same people in charge. The same results. When President Nixon ordered bombing of N. Vietnam, Congress screamed and hollered until the President halted the bombing. But it did force the North back to the peace table. We negotiated a peace that resulted in the death of over 3 million people. We are lucky they kept their ambitions local.
Vietnam has not learned the way of peace.
In Somalia the Islamo-fascist turned the country into a gangland ruled by different sects. When America attempted to provide aid to the starving population we came under attack and instead of laying waste to the gangs our President pulled out. Re-deployed if you will.
The Islamo-fascist did not learn the way of peace.
In the Gulf war we started out the right way. Hitting Baghdad and destroying their army as it ran from Kuwaiti. Then Congress and the UN howled and we signed a peace agreement.
I guess you can say we re-deployed to Saudi Arabia and surrounding countries.
Iraq did not learn the way of peace.
The terrorist moved into Afghanistan. Osama financed two attacks against our homeland and several others against our interest around the world. While other Presidents ignored these attacks President Bush responded and warned terrorist and their supporters around the world we would find them. In stead of slash and burn we chased a few Talaban out of the country.
The Talaban has not learned the way of peace.
10 years and 17 UN resolutions later Iraq still provided support and money to terrorist organizations. When confronted with complying with UN resolutions or face an invasion, Saddam chose the latter. We obliged. Congress howled and we fought a "civilized" war while the islamo-fascist fought to win.
Now Congress wants to Re Deploy.
Islam has not learned the way of peace.
Perhaps we should follow the advice of the supporters of suicide bombers.
Saturate bomb Sadar City, and Hezbola strong holds in Lebanon, maybe a nuke in the mountains of Afghanistan. Ring Teheran by bombing all the training camps on the border of Iraq. Quadafi didn't like having his palace blown up so take out one or two in Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
Maybe then Islam will learn the way of peace.
